This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Tombow Dual Brush Pen, a tool that has become an essential part of every artist's toolkit since its inception. Launched in 1984, the Dual Brush Pen was initially introduced as a "soft lettering pen" under the product name AB-T, which stands for "Art Brush Twin."

The pen's journey began in the 1970s when the concept of brush pens emerged from the design of fountain pens. Tombow revolutionized the market by developing a nylon nib that enhanced ink consistency, making the Dual Brush Pen a versatile tool for artists and creators alike.

Tombow Dual Brush Pen History

From its beginnings with 72 colors, the Dual Brush Pen has grown into a collection of 108 vibrant shades, widely adopted by artists across various disciplines. Its dual-tip design—one end featuring a flexible brush tip and the other a fine bullet tip—has made it a favorite for lettering, illustrations, and beyond.

Over the decades, the AB-T has maintained its core identity while expanding its appeal far beyond its original concept, solidifying its place as a timeless staple in the art world.
